PTO MINUTES FOR November, 2008 On Monday, November 24th, Freedom Trail PTO met in the Media Center for the monthly meeting. A welcome was given by Shannon Cook and the meeting was called to order. First on the agenda was Ruth Shirley with an update on the sign that the school will purchase. The person that is working on the sign broke his foot so it will be a little later than scheduled but PTO feels that since he is a local businessman that they will wait until he can finish it. Also, Ms. Shirley stated to the group that it had been decided that the waterfall will go in front of the building instead of behind the Media Center. Everyone agreed that it will look good there. On behalf of the faculty, Ms. Shirley told the group that there would not be a gift exchange in the classrooms this year due to the economy and the hardship it puts on some families. A discussion followed with some suggestions offered among the teachers about what they will do for their own classrooms. Prior to the meeting, Shannon Cook and Ruth Shirley agreed that with some funding from the school and PTO that the school would buy each child a book for Christmas. Shannon Cook also offered some suggestions to parents that stated they might want to do something for their child’s class. Games, puzzles, snacks or paper products are good gifts for the whole class. Kim Church then reminded the group that the Christmas Shop would be held on December 1 – 5. There are lots of items for the family and great stocking stuffers. The proceeds will go to the fifth grade for their class trip. Amy Jaynes addressed the group with some suggestions for fundraisers and she will get more information to Ms. Ruth about these. There was no new business. The next meeting will be in February. Patsy Grindstaff made a motion to close the meeting.
Thank you,
